Kia Motors has succeeded in its aspiration to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. To set the best gas mileage record for a hybrid car, Guinness required two drivers and their luggage to be transported through all 48 adjacent U.S. states. A Optima Hybrid Sedan, driven by Wayne Gerdes and Chris Bernius, triumphantly set the record by plowing through the 7,899-mile journey without a flaw. The drivers started out in West Point, Georgia and completed the trip in Greenville, South Carolina.

To break the world record, Guinness said that the sedan must exceed 52.27 mpg which it did with flying colors. The 14-day road trip used only 5.5 tanks of gas, averaging at more than 64 mpg for the entire journey. Gerdes and Bernius didn't merely break a world record, but they also left the Optima Hybrid's highway fuel consumption rate in the dust by 60 percent.

The two drivers were awarded with the official document for breaking the petroleum consumption record by Guinness Judge Philip Robertson at the executive service which was held on the 12th of September at Kia Motors in West Point, Georgia. The certificate formally named the record, "Lowest fuel consumption driving through all 48 contiguous U.S. states in a gasoline hybrid car," which is definitely something that should make this company proud. Senior Vice President, Thomas Oh, expressed, "Kia Motors is deeply proud to have set a new Guinness World Record. It is testament to the quality of the design, engineering and production methods of this car."

If you've ever dreamed of effortlessly going down in history for breaking a Guinness World Record, it seems that your most ideal opportunity has come and gone. Gerdes and Bernius described what a pleasant expedition they had in the Sedan, saying it truly was the idyllic car to make a long distance trip. The inside of the car is spacious enough for a comfortable and soothing ride, and even they were astounded by the Optima Hybrid's unbelievable energy-saving performance.

It must be said that this special auto isn't only perfect for interstate driving and model weather conditions, but it performs solidly in a variety of settings and circumstances. While breaking the world record, the sedan easily went through both freezing and seemingly-boiling temperatures, as climate zones were being crossed. The Optima Hybrid had no problem climbing mountains, getting through deserts or weaving through some of the most infamous interchanges in Chicago and New York City.
