Consumers are spending massive amounts of cash on gasoline and prices are still rising. It seems that each day the cost becomes more of a strain on the family budget. Thankfully, there are many methods of saving money on fuel.

It is inevitable that people need to spend cash on gasoline. Whether it's a trip to the market or taking kids to school, vehicles need energy to get there. There are steps to take that will help to reduce the amount of gas a car needs.

One way to eliminate to need to stop at the gas station is to keep the car well maintained. A vehicle that is in disrepair will use more gasoline. It's a similar concept to the way a human body works when ill. People need far more water and food when they do not feel up to par.

Properly caring for the vehicle is not that difficult. Simply make sure that the oil is clean and at the level it should be. Keep tires properly inflated as well. It will save on gas mileage and be safer too.

Don't speed when driving down the road. The speed limits are put into place as a matter of public safety. However, following the law will also help drivers save on gasoline. It is a winning situation no matter how it is looked at.

Another method for saving gasoline is to walk more. When going a few blocks, there is no need to start up the car. This practice will also reduce weight and improve overall health.

Weekend activities do not have to include car travel. There are many things that everyone can do that are close to the house. Plan a big dinner or cookout for the group. Take a family bike ride or play a backyard volleyball game. Another option is to watch some DVDs and make popcorn.

When it comes to transporting the kids, take turns with family, friends and neighbors. Designate a mom to haul several children each week. Rotate the schedule to ensure that no single person is using all their gas. A group of five people would only have to make two trips to school each week.

Sharing a ride is a great idea for coworkers too. Choose two or three people who live nearby and take turns transporting one another to their respective place of employment. Another option is to take the city bus or subway. Public transit is very economical.

Saving money on fuel is simple. Just maintain vehicles to reduce the amount of gas being burned and walk whenever possible. The additional money can go towards something fun.
